Becoming A Participant Member of Legio IX Hispana
It is quite easy to become a Participant Member of Legio IX Hispana no matter where you live. What you do need is the desire to be a part of what we are doing, to join us in accomplishing our Goals, plus the ability to acquire and use the required Kit as a soldier of Legio IX Hispana. Fill out this form and send it. Physical Appearance We are modern people and this is a hobby. Sometimes modern aspects can interfere with a good depiction of a Roman soldier. Here are some guidelines: - Participant Members as soldiers should be in good physical shape, fit and capable of using the armor and gear. - Whenever possible those who need glasses should wear contacts or not wear glasses. - Jewelry. Any modern jewelry should not be visible. - Tatoos. Tatoos must not be visible. A fun way to hide a tatoo is to cover it with a Roman bandage. - Hair. Modern hairstyles including cut and coloration should be avoided. Hair length is generally not an issue. Facial hair is allowed but trimmed and shaped facial hair should be historically acceptable. - Makeup. Unacceptable on Soldiers except when used to disguise modern affectations such as tatoos or to disguise gender. - Gender. Legio IX Hispana allows females to protray Roman soldiers but only so long as they are able to disguise their femaleness. Sometimes this means filling in plucked eybrows or even wearing false moustaches. - Ethnicity. Not a concern. Joint Membership in Other Roman Legion Clubs We do not prohibit membership in other Roman re-enactment clubs but we do discourage joint membership if only because different Roman Legion Clubs often have conflicting standards, different re-enactment philosophies and objectives. Besides having two sets of some gear can get expensive! Joint Participation We strongly support and heartily encourage joint participation at events whenever other Clubs are invited. This greatly enhances the hobby of Roman re-enactment. We often have a lot to teach each other and this shared knowledge contributes to a better depiction of Roman soldiering.
